Weight loss secrets

Hacker News is a dissonant mix of interesting technology/programming and entrepreneurialism. What do these two things have to do with each other, you ask? Well, technology is what’s in fashion in the entrepreneurial world, that’s what. So because I quite enjoy (some of) the tech discussions, I am exposed to a lot of other articles which I have no real interest in; the kind of things that deal in fairly transparent snake oil.

One of the fads that pops up quite often is weight loss. I find it baffling that obtaining a healthy weight is regarded as being a quest on par with the search for the holy grail, which requires <your app here>. It’s really very simple:

Step 1: Don’t drink alcohol
Step 2: Don’t drink soft drinks
Step 3: Do some exercise occasionally. Walking isn’t exercise. If your heart doesn’t feel like it’s going to burst out of your chest like an alien xenomorph, it’s not exercise*.

I don’t think you even have to care much about what you eat as long as you aren’t eating tonnes of stuff that is really obviously awful.
